Two Weeks to Tangled!
A gorgeous day in Baltimore, amazing readers, stepping out of my comfort zone, and finally holding my second book baby. Whew. Friends, it’s been a week.
Let’s get into it…
My Very Own Workplace Meet-Cute
Fun fact: my husband and I met at work, right here in Charm City. It was a classic meet-cute, complete with awkward moments and more than enough chaos to keep things interesting. Our story even made it into a collection of real-life romances! If you’re curious, check out How I Met My Other: True Engagements, Forever Love and see how we went from coworkers to a married couple with four kids.
Baltimore will always have my heart, which is why I spent a sunny day there this week. Between devouring good food, drinking too much coffee, and doing a little local shopping (for “research,” of course), I also popped into a few bookstores and libraries to spread the word about Woven and Tangled.
Honestly, the hardest part of writing a novel isn’t the writing—it’s what comes after. Talking about it. Pitching, promoting… smiling (yikes). For this behind-the-scenes, coffee-loving semi-introvert, it’s a stretch—but a worthwhile one. I met some amazing people and soaked in all the energy I could.
Is it weird that I catch myself looking for David, Josh, and Kate when I’m in Canton? I know they’re fictional, but they feel real in my head, and that’s exactly why I had to write their story. It means the world when readers say they’d grab a drink with one of them or that their story felt lived-in and real. That’s the dream, right? Bringing your characters to life. I’ll be talking more about reader feedback in the next section, but know that your words matter more than you could ever imagine.
Speaking of words, Woven and Tangled will be making their way to some of my favorite Baltimore book spots. Look for them soon at The Ivy Bookshop, Bird in Hand, and the Enoch Pratt Library Canton location.
Book Baby Two
I’m going to make a slightly controversial statement: birthing a book baby might be harder than birthing a real one. Writing, revising, editing, publishing…it can take years. A human baby? Nine months, start to finish.
So when that book finally arrives, and you get to hold it? Magic. Not just imagining the cover anymore, but feeling it in your hands, flipping through the pages, sensing the weight of something that started as a spark of an idea and turned into a full-grown story.
It’s surreal. It’s satisfying. And it’s worth every minute.
